Volunteering is choosing to give some of your time, energy and skills, without pay, for the benefit of the community and yourself? Volunteers come from all walks of life and the photos you see on this site are all of real people engaged in real volunteering activities.
Who can volunteer?
Anyone! Whatever your age, job status or abilities, volunteering is open to all. Tell us what you’d like to do and we’ll do our best to find you the right opportunity.
How much time would it take?
It can vary from as little as a few hours a month to a few days a week. Think about how much time you want to give to your volunteering.
Will it cost me anything?
Volunteering shouldn’t cost you anything. Most organisations will pay “out of pocket” expenses, including travel expenses.
If you receive benefits then any volunteering you do shouldn’t affect your entitlement to these benefits. You can find more information in the ‘Benefits and volunteering’ section
What would I get out of it?
People volunteer for many different reasons and there are lots of benefits to volunteering, including:
- Enjoyment and personal satisfaction
- A chance to meet new people
- Involvement in your local community
- A chance to learn and use new skills
- Recognition of your abilities and potential
- Building your confidence and self-esteem
- Being valued and appreciated
- Having fun!
