OPP OF THE DAY: Helper, 1st Halesowen Scout Group

We are looking for volunteers/helpers to develop the true potential of young people within Scouting. Our Group is looking for volunteers/helpers to join a team of committed and experienced Leaders to develop and expand Scouting opportunities for young people in Halesowen. We are looking for adults to join our existing Leadership Teams at:

  • Beavers (6 – 8 yrs) on a Wednesday evening 6.00 – 7.30 pm
  • Cubs (8 – 11 yrs) on either a Thursday or Friday evening 7.00 – 8.30 pm

We can also offer Young Leader opportunities to young volunteers aged 14 – 18 years.

Due to huge demand for places, we are trying to open another Beaver Colony (6-8yrs) on a Saturday morning. Meeting would be 90 minutes – times to be arranged. To do this we need another 3 or 4 new volunteers.

New volunteers will receive help and support and work with experienced Leaders at all times. You will not be ‘thrown in at the deep end’. The Scout Group pays for all associated training and uniform.

Scouting is a great way to learn new skills, develop organisational and leadership qualities and it looks great on any CV or job application.

Volunteering can help young people develop their true potential, so why not join us? We have a four week taster scheme for new volunteers. Go to http://www.scouts.org.uk/fourweekchallenge to find out more or look us up at http://www.1sthalesowenscouts.org.uk .

There are many reasons why adults choose to volunteer for Scouting. Here are some that existing volunteers have given:

“To give something back to the community. I believe the kids get such a lot out of it; I just put a bit back for what the kids take out.'”

“To support the Leaders: ‘They give so much, you’ve got to give some of that back.'”

“As an enabler, so the Leader can do more: ‘If I can help Sam, our Leader, out by doing the little things, then it means she has got more time to give the kids and then they get more out of it.'”

“To develop my own skills. I hadn’t used a compass since I was a Scout. Having learned how to use one again, I take one out on family walks. We get lost less than we used to!”

“I recently attended a job interview and the Human Resources Director was very interested and impressed with me being a Leader in the Scouts. She even commented that it added something to my application that no other candidate had to offer.”

When Required:
Days & times as above
Occasional weekends
Commitment: Flexible/Part Time
