New volunteer opportunities with Beacon

Beacon have the following new volunteer opportunities available:

Telephone Befrienders

We are looking for more Telephone Befrienders to provide telephone support to lonely and isolated people living within the local area. This will involve making weekly phone calls to offer a listening ear and social contact, keeping a log of phone calls and brief details of conversations. Telephone befriending volunteers must be able to make calls from their own devices that incur no cost to them (unlimited minutes, free landline calls etc). No experience is needed, however a polite, friendly and empathetic manner is essential. An enhanced DBS check will also be required which Beacon will arrange.

Collection Box Volunteers

A new opportunity has become available volunteering within our successful Income Generation team for collection box volunteers. Suitable for one or more volunteers, the role requires a full driving licence and can be flexible with days and hours. You will be required to collect the contents of Beacon branded collection boxes from shops, newsagents, pubs and restaurants, in and around the Wolverhampton, Dudley and Stourbridge areas.

Collection boxes have always been an important source of fundraising for the Beacon Centre and we need help collecting the donations now more than ever.

We are looking for up to four volunteers to cover Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays (as and when the building starts to fully reopen). Tasks will include signing in and out visitors, escorting visitors to appointments, welcoming members and assisting with the allocation of Covid-19 Test kits and registration of results. Previous experience of a reception type role is desirable, with some customer services experience and IT literacy required. You must also be approachable and friendly!

Shop volunteers—Sedgley, Bilston, Bloxwich, Cannock, Penkridge, Wolverhampton, Halesowen

We urgently need more Shop volunteers across all of our shops. Tasks will involve arranging window displays, shelves and rails, serving customers on the till, maintaining the tidiness of the shop and steaming and pricing clothing. These roles are some of the most vital volunteer roles at Beacon, allowing the shops to stay open. Volunteers will also receive certificated training.

Drivers Mate

We are looking for Drivers Mates for our retail team, to support the van driver with the collection of donated items of stock and to also help with the delivery of purchased items. Support also needed with the loading and unloading of the van with donated stock and delivery of furniture.
