OPP OF THE DAY: Gateway Assessor, Citizens Advice Bureau Dudley and District

Purpose of the rolecab

  • To help provide an effective and efficient assessment of members of the public and the services required
  • To help influence government and other organisations by informing them of the effect of their actions on the lives of clients

Minimum commitment: 1 day per week (2 days for 1st 5 weeks)

Main duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Assessing clients’ problem(s) face to face or on the telephone using sensitive listening and questioning skills
  • Identifying key information about the problem including time limits, key dates and any requirement for urgent advice or action
  • Setting expectations and establishing what the client wants
  • Recording information about the assessment in an accurate and timely manner
  • Assessing and agreeing the appropriate next step, taking into consideration the complexity of the problem and the ability of the client
  • Signposting and referring clients effectively
  • Identifying and raising research & campaigns issues
  • Keeping up to date by attending mandatory training and by essential reading
  • Identifying discrimination
  • Identifying possible safeguarding issues and highlight to the line manager
  • Being aware of Health and Safety, Data Protection and Confidentiality

Personal skills and qualities required:

  • A commitment to the aims and principles of Citizens Advice Dudley Borough
  • A positive attitude to self-development and assessment
  • Ability to work alone or as part of a team
  • Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing
  • Ability to manage own time and workload effectively
  • Respect for views, values and cultures that are different to their own
  • Competence in using IT
  • Being open and approachable
