OPP OF THE DAY: Branch Treasurer Volunteer, The MS Society – Dudley District Branch

An estimated 100,000 people in theMS UK have MS. The MS Society supports people with MS through research, care and support. We aim to empower people affected by MS through information, emotional support and advice. We need volunteers to continue to support thousands of people across the UK.

Volunteering with your local MS Society group is a fantastic opportunity to get involved and make a difference.

– Help make positive changes to the lives of people affected by MS
– Oversee all branch financial activities
– Reporting on the branch finances to the MS National Centre
– Provide financial advice and information to the local group
– Maintaining accurate and up-to-date accounting records for the branch
– Ensuring proper financial controls are established and complied with
– Act as one of the bank signatories
– Preparing and presenting relevant and regular financial reports to the committee
– Submitting annual audited or independently examined accounts to MS National Centre and any other financial reports as required
– Advising the branch committee on effective financial management, the proper use of branch funds and the financial implications of committee decisions in line with the constitution of the MS Society
– Taking the lead in planning and budgeting the branch’s finances with the rest of the branch committee
– Ensuring a smooth handover to the next Treasurer, as all documents and money are the property of the MS Society
– Ensuring the branch is claiming gift aid as appropriate
