OPP OF THE DAY: Volunteer “Big Difference” Adviser, Citizens Advice Bureau Dudley and District

Purpose of the roleCAB Dudley2
– To help members of the public see whether they can receive a reduced water bill through the Big Difference Scheme
– To help influence government and other organisations by informing them of the effect of their actions on the lives of clients

Minimum commitment: 1 day per week

Main duties and responsibilities will include:
– Receiving referrals from any member of staff from Citizens Advice Dudley Borough
– Interviewing client by telephone, or face to face (if required) and completing an online Big Difference Water Application form
– Finding, interpreting and communicating the relevant information in order to ensure all questions can be answered as accurately as possible, on the application form
– Contacting clients to advise the outcome of their application to the scheme and the next steps necessary
– Referring clients to other Citizens Advice Dudley Borough services when appropriate
– Keeping up to date on important issues by attending any appropriate training and by essential reading
– Attending meetings as required

– A positive attitude to self-development and assessment
– Ability to work alone or as part of a team
– Excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing
– Ability to manage own time and workload effectively
– Respect for views, values and cultures that are different to their own
– Competence in using IT
– Satisfactory mathematical skills
– Ability to sift through information and extract what is relevant
