Digital Playtime (and celebration of 5 years of social media surgeries) @WeAreBCR @DudleyCVS

A bit of time to mess with platforms and tech on 14th April

It’s amazing what tricks and tips you can learn from other people about digital tools you are already using. And it’s often easier to get to grips with a new app if someone shows you the basics.

Digital Playtime is a completley informal drop-in activity to create a bit of space for use to learn from each other and return to our groups and organsiations with new knowledge and ways to make our work easier. This first session will be a bit of an experiment. We might find we want to create a focus around particular kinds of apps or accessories in future, but we’ll start with a blank page.

Open to all, simply bring a bit of change to buy a drink from Lunch on the Run, a social enterprise who run the coffee shop at DY1. (They also do hot and cold food, so please do also buy yourself some lunch if you wish to.)

And a bit of cake to celebrate 5 years of social media surgeries

On 14 April 2011 two people launched Dudley social media surgery at Cafe Grande. 11 people came along to share thier social media know-how with 19 people from local community groups and charities looking for a bit of help getting to grips with social media.

Since that day a growing, enthusiastic team of surgery managers have run 45 further surgeries. Surgeries now take place regularly in Dudley, Stourbridge and Halesowen. 5 local business owners have hosted surgeries (for free), 22 people have signed up to offer help, and 270 people have booked on surgeries to recieve help.

We thought it would be nice to have a bit of cake to thank any of these 297 people who can make it along. They have contributed to of one of Dudley’s best examples of an open participatory platform and helped us understand how simple it can be to create the conditions for peer-to-peer learning.
