We are at the start of a new project called Fighting Loneliness. As part of this project we are looking to start a regular conversation club. The Conversation Club will meet one morning a week and will be a chance for people in the local community to get out and meet new people. Our befriending volunteers will be facilitating conversation between all the people who come to the club. Some weeks there may be just one or two people and the volunteer’s role will be instrumental in getting conversations going; other weeks there may be quite a few people and conversation may flow more naturally.
Who will suit this role?
The role of Befriending Volunteer will suit someone who:
– enjoys talking to people
– is looking for a regular volunteering opportunity
– doesn’t have much time to give and is looking for a role with a small time commitment (2 hours a week / fortnight)
– is flexible and enthusiastic
What’s in it for you?
– Becoming part of a friendly team
– Meeting new people
– Develop skills and learn new ones
– Enjoy new experiences
Time commitment: Conversation Clubs meet once a week; we ask volunteers to commit to two days a month (day to be discussed, 10am-12noon)
Working with vulnerable people: You will be required to complete a DBS check for this role.
